The Different Types Of Treatments For Herniated Disc

The life of a sciatica patient goes through a lot of pain and treatment. The herniated disc could be at any length of the spinal cord which affects different parts of body. Usually, sciatica pain arises in the lumbar region which also affects legs when vertebrae pressurize nerves around the affected column.

According to pain management, Greenville upgraded techniques are used which are supported by recent inclusions in technology and devices for better results.

Some of the famous types of surgeries:

Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (ALIF)- ALIF is done from front of the Spinal cord to eradicate the pain source. An incision is made in left side of the abdomen parallel to the affected area. Abdominal sack, the peritoneum, containing the organs and muscles are moved to a side to reach the disc. Once there, aorta and vena cava are safely rescued from the pressure site and the disc is removed while a spinal cage fixed with screws is assembled to alleviate the vertebral pressure.

Discography- Discography is not a surgical method but deserves to be in this list because it is performed as a diagnostic test. A sterile x-ray dye is injected in the spinal disc with gentle pressure which induces pain. An experienced discographer would take a discogram after the injection and mark the affected area. Lumbar fusion procedure follows only after discography is performed to get the exact situation of the spine.

Radio frequency Ablation of Nerves- This procedure shuts the pain generating muscle in the spinal region by passing a high frequency current. It is done under fluoroscopy for guiding the needle at the targeted region. The other nerves are in danger if the procedure is not performed with precision. The needle tip is heated by passing the radio frequency that seals the ability of the nerve to send pain signals.

Pain management Henderson recommends some methods that have been very successful. The success rate of these procedures also depends on the doctor’s ability to perform the pre-surgery tests. If the exact position of pressured nerves and defected discs are determined then half work is done.
