Facts You Must Know About Herniated Disc

Herniated disc is counted among one of the most common spinal problems across the globe. It can take place in thoracic, cervical and lumbar areas of the spine. Let us outgrow our knowledge on herniated disc and explore every aspects related to it.

Spinal discs has 2 main parts: the outer tissues or the annulus fibrosus and the inner part or the softer substance known as nucleus pulposus. When a disc weakens, the annulus fibrosus tears which allows the nucleus pulposus to slip outside into the spinal canal. This is actually what happens when a disc herniates. When a disc weakens, the annulus fibrosus can tear, allowing the nucleus pulposus to slip outside of the disc and into the spinal canal. This is what happens when a disc herniates.

In few cases, herniated disc occurs slowly with time; while in other cases, it takes place suddenly. No matter how quickly it takes places, a weakened disc undergoes a number of stages before turning into herniation. Every weakened disc goes through 4 stages that begin with degeneration and end with herniation. Talking about the first 2 stages, nucleus pulposus is not ruptured through the annulus fibrosus. On the other hand, the last two stages represent complete herniations.

As per herniated disc treatment Cary, some disc don’t have any symptoms. So, in order to identify the problem in such cases, a MRI or CT scan is recommended. It is important to know that a disc can be herniated even by sneezing or coughing. A sudden sneeze or cough has the ability to create extra pressure on the back which pushes nucleus pulposus out of the disc. Moreover, mundane movements when done with poor posture or suddenly can lead to a herniated disc. Lifting a heavy bag and twisting in office chair quickly are activities that weaken the spinal discs.

It is good to get the disorder treated on time else it will turn into sciatica. If you are dealing with this problem, sciatica symptoms and treatment is a smart approach to cure the issue and get back to a healthy and painless life.
